definitely a special skill
Jonathan "Fatal1ty" Wendell among other god-tier Quake 4 players actually calculates the trajectory of your jumps so he knows where you'll land and where to shoot on reaction.
Korean starcraft players have literally played so much and gotten so good that every last strategy that anyone can think of, they've perfected. On top of that it's no longer a matter of strategy for them, it's a matter of who can work faster to minimize their losses the most.
Japanese Guilty Gear players have some of the most insane pressure strings and throw setups that I have ever seen. Definitely know the game inside out.
Korean and Filipino Tekken players break throws consistently, duck highs and punish on reaction, low parry on reaction, and see 10 frame jabs or kicks on reaction.

So yes, definitely a special skill.

f

god you need to grow up and develop a better taste in music.

And quit getting your panties in a bunch, 50 Cent and them other peeps suck ass, it's an established fact, face it and get over it.

f

that's cause Usher does suck

and Nelly is a disgrace to rap, right in the same category as 50 Cent and the rest of them mainstream ass sellouts who keep pushing the same bullshit watered down meaningless shit they call music.

no thanks, I'll take a Sage Francis or Talib Kweli album over some idiot wannabe rapper's album anyday

f

both melody and meaning are essential to a good song. you can't have all of one and throw away the other, or most of one and barely any of the other.

take for example: Jedi Mind Tricks - Uncommon Valor, A Vietnam Story

[Verse 1-Vinnie Paz]
Yeah, I don't know why I'm over here, this job is evil
They sent me here to Vietnam to kill innocent people
My mother always said, "The president, he doesn't care"
He tryin' to leave the footprints of America here
They say we tryin' to stop Chinese expansion
But I ain't seen no Chinese since we landed
Sent my whole entire unit thinkin' we could win
Against the Viet Cong guerrillas there in Gia Dinh
I didn't sign up to kill women or any children
For every enemy soldier, we killin' six civilians

excellent song with both meaning and a good melody

f

I guess it depends on the topic for me as my writing tends to learn towards day to day urban life and society in general. But for the most part I don''t post much because past experiences have shown me that urban/ slam/ rap/ hip hop oriented material is generally looked down upon by the anime and poetry and community.

f

heh heh, that's cool, I hope to one day be able to submit my stuff to machine shop records or so

f

on top of being miseducated, a lot of people are pretty much apathetic about Christmas as well, take me for example. If I gave a shit less about Christmas than I already do now, I dare say I'd be constipated.

Quote by egnirysThe filler wasn't bad. It could be worse. There were no Naruto characters dressed as hippies, and some of the genuine plot was tied into the fillers. It's dragging on more than a bit, but it'll be over soon. The manga (where the fillers don't continue) is good, so I don't see how the anime can be bad, unless they totally butcher it. Filler is just that, filler. I don't think anyone should really have expectations of it. If you don't like it, don't watch it. I don't watch Bleach filler, but I'll pick it up again when the filler's over. I don't think it's made the series suck, and I don't think that the Naruto filler has made it suck either.

I should add on that I think the Naruto manga also sucks now.

f

either way, it's a matter of too little, too late. whether or not the fillers are ending doesn't matter. Naruto has dug itself into a shithole so deep that there is no redemption for it. Even if the fillers DO end, the series still sucks.

f

I'm surprised they didn't stop subbing it earlier. Naruto ####ing sucks balls now.

Quote by Aoshi101Well the reason music is not held in such regard in the general anime/manga community is because:

1) different type of art form
2) what are we gonna talk about? i.e. that band member is tight lookin or that music is great. Can't start real debates about music. I like that better than this...cool you like what you want.
3) I've noticed (in my opinion) that the majority of anime fans listen to rock or some variation of rock. that is just my opinion though. Can't really debate about something both people like.

my god you have no idea, there are plenty of debates that one could start up about music. of course I don't want to bring them up since these debates usually take a turn for some nasty flames and over generalizations from both sides and biased shots thrown around freely by pissed off fans.

Quote: once again confroming to the rule that all movies based on games must be bad.

why? there are several good movies. for example mortal kombat 1 was pretty good, both resident evil movieas are not bad and silent hill is just outstanding! So we still can hope for the best!...after killing Uve Boll ofc =)

I actually liked Advent Children the movie, did pretty well in my book. Mortal Kombat 1 was ok as they somewhat followed the storyline of the game itself. Resident Evil 1 was alright since it had its scary moments. Resident Evil Apocalypse was a bullshit disgrace to Resident Evil.

On top of those, the Tomb Raider series did alright in my opinion. Not spectacular but a decent attempt.

But DOA the movie was just a pure #### up in every sense of the word. When the trailer says they've got the looks that can kill they weren't kidding, after seeing the alien life form that was playing Kasumi I believe I felt my heart stopping.

The chick looks like God beat her with the ugly stick and then bashed her face against the ugly tree for good measure.

f

It's not a rumor, it's a fact. Enter The Dragon was slowed down so the camera could actually capture his movements.

And there's a rule here about not making "versus threads" since they generate little to absolutely no discussion other than a series of people making one or two word posts about who they think is better or would win or whatever.

Quote by ClaaI don't like rap... I'm from Brazil, and most of the rap song I hear on MTV Hits are almost always the same message: pornograph. I dun'no why, but there's just rap music like this in the TV.
More: I can't understand what they're saying, even in the calm ones. They use soooo much abreviations that it's kinda impossible to really undestand the message (if it has) they want to pass to everyone.
But it's my opinion. My cousin loves rap and hip-hop (wich I think it's even worse), and doesn't has any problems with this kind of music...

that's because it's MTV, MTV is a load of bull when it comes to playing music of any genre. all they do is play a bunch of commercialized crap that they know will rake in lots of money from people who don't know better.
the same goes for VH1.

MTV2 might be a bit better, but it's still pretty much just kicking out the bottom of the barrel quality wise.

You're better off going to a music forum on the internet and asking for real suggestions there.

Quote by zezlemetQuestion: What's wrong with rap muisc?

Answer: They have CD's with 23 songs about 3 things and at any point in rap history there are three 3 guys making the beats for every major artist so every thing ends up sounding the same after awhile

merged: 08-21-2006 ~ 04:08am
And for the record I don't hate rap I just feel currently there are no new memeorable rappers. I just haven't seen a "Big Poppa","Run DMC", or a "Tupac" of our generation or any other who will be rembered 10 years down the road.

then what would you call Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Nas, Sage Francis, Black Thought, etc. etc.

are you sure that there aren't any memorable artists or is it just that you haven't looked hard enough?

f

you should have never revived this thread. now I can patiently wait for the new horde of ignorant rap haters to come swarming in with a laundry list of "rap sucks" comments and then a long continuation of pushing their values upon other people without knowing the first two things about rap.

f

I flipped up her song Tom's Diner into a rap beat.
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=181724&songID=3138679

Tom's Diner is definitely a catchy little tune, I remember hearing it ages ago and several years later I'm scouring the internet for the song since I didn't know the title and I wanted to cut and sample it.

Some time in the future I hope to drop my own vocals over that beat.

Got around to posting Cunninlynguists' album Will Rap For Food. Get it via the sendspace link below. And a video of Iron Solomon in a street battle against G Sizzle via YouTube link.

Quote by SilentKnightSo, I guess I'll start this off with a question. What do you guys think about the current state of rap music and hip hop culture in general? Are there any artists not listed here already that you think people should check out and why should they check it out?

I think that rap got too popular. Any artist that talks about hoes and stuff like that can get a record deal and sell millions. I'm not saying that the underground scene is what rap is all about, but gangsta rap is getting old. We need more groups like De la Soul.

I think the popularity is only a portion of the problem. The popularity encourages up and coming rappers to talk about such topics and contributes to the continual birth of such rappers, but that still doesn't guarantee a record deal to every person that talks about bitches and hoes and stuff.

I think that an important factor in getting a record deal and whatnot has to do with the person's connections to people in the music business. A lot of talented people that I know don't get any recognition whatsoever simply because they have virtually no connections with anyone.

Which I believe is another portion of the problem with rap music, or music in general nowadays. People in the music business aren't really concerned with looking for true talent in a stranger they don't know, they'd rather pass the opportunity to an acquaintance or close friend of some sort regardless of musical talent. This essentially gives out the idea that only the crappiest and at most decent musicians can succeed and encourages people to do the same and strive for mediocrity and in a sense also serves as a discouraging reminder to talented artists of how biased the music industry can be.

If the music business truly focused solely on an artist's talent and originality rather personal connections or milking a genre dry for profit, I believe that the competition among artists striving for recognition alone would sprout quite a few talented acts.

Am I into collecting these figurines? Let me make it simple. I spent close to 1,500 dollars at this year's anime expo. Only 6 of the things that I bought fell into the wall scroll/ poster category.

So far I've got 2 Kao No Nai Tsuki resin figures, 1 Mahou Shoujo Ai resin figure, 1 Onegai Twins set consisting of both chars, 1 Morrigan figure, both a blue and white Kasumi figure, 2 Comic Party figures, 2 Devil Angel figures, 2 Majokko A La Mode Figures, 1 Soul Link figure, 1 Snow Drop figure, 1 Front Innocent figure, 2 He Is My Master figures, and 2 unidentified anime figures.

And I should have one Kos-mos PVC coming in about November or so and either one more resin kit or 2 Burst Angel figures in place of the resin kit.

God, I spend my entire paycheck and then some on this shit.........take it from me folks, kick the addiction early before it gets you hooked, this is an expensive hobby.

f

I'm going to bump this thread and gamble on the possibility of an intelligent discussion going down without some ignorant elitist fucktard coming in here and posting rap sucks in caps lock.

And if you're said elitist planning to post something, I suggest you go and donkeyride a chainsaw while leatherface shoves his manhood down your throat and blows his load.

So, I guess I'll start this off with a question. What do you guys think about the current state of rap music and hip hop culture in general? Are there any artists not listed here already that you think people should check out and why should they check it out?

f

I remember when one of my relatives commented on me watching anime and was like "Watching cartoons when you're this old? Grow up, cartoons are for kids."

I threw him a nice big and wide, nasty grin and told him to wait there for a bit so I could show him something.....I'll never forget the look on his face when I told him to look carefully at my monitor and Bible Black started playing at a relatively loud volume at full screen on my computer.

And then there were various other occurences, say when I was watching the English dub of Ghost In The Shell or Samurai Champloo and one of the characters dropped the F-bomb, which had some of my relatives surprised.

f

it was explained in one of the earlier volumes of the manga that the people who die in Soul Society go back to Earth in a reincarnated form, those who die on Earth go to Soul Society or become hollows.
i think it was the volume where they were talking about the Quincy and explaining why killing Hollows altogether threw off the balance of things, which is essentially why the shinigami intervened and killed off the Quincy.

Quote by ChronicXNo one likes country.... and with a good reason for it.

I am metal. Favourite band is Avenged Sevenfold, but it doesn't reflect on my personality, cept for my musical talents.

THANK YOU! for actually answering the question in my thread. honestly i don't think a lot of people are actually reading what i asked at all.

it might have something to do with that poll in your first post, the one that says "What is your favorite music genre?"

as for the music i listen to, no, it doesn't really reflect my personality

maybe my various moods, but definitely not my personality
